The West Virginia Mountaineers represent West Virginia University, which was founded in 1867 and is located in Morgantown, West Virginia. The university’s official colors are old gold and blue. The Mountaineers compete in various sports, with their football team playing at Milan Puskar Stadium, while the basketball team competes at the WVU Coliseum. West Virginia’s athletic programs are known for their hard-nosed style of play and passionate fan base, particularly in football and basketball. The team’s mascot is The Mountaineer, a costumed figure dressed in traditional frontier attire, complete with a coonskin cap and a musket.
