About Volleyball
Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan as a less physically demanding alternative to basketball, originally called “mintonette.” The game quickly evolved with the introduction of set rules, including a net, six-player teams, and a three-hit limit per side. As volleyball gained popularity, it spread globally, leading to the formation of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) in 1947 and the inclusion of the sport in the Olympics in 1964. Over time, innovations such as the jump serve, rally scoring, and beach volleyball variations added excitement and diversity to the game. Today, volleyball is played at all levels, from schools to professional leagues, uniting athletes and fans with its fast-paced action and teamwork-driven gameplay.
